Community Bank held the ribbon cutting for its new branch in Seaford last Wednesday, becoming the first new tenant of the new Nylon Center. Community Bank President Jack Riddle opened a Melon branch in the current Community Bank location 40 years ago.
“We are excited to be a local bank owned by people that live in Sussex County,” said Riddle.
Riddle thanked current and past city and state elected officials and employees for their support for the Nylon Capital project and the opening of the Community Bank branch in it.

Community Bank held its ribbon-cutting ceremony last week in Seaford to commemorate its opening. The bank is the first new Nylon Center tenant to open.
Governor Matt Meyer praised Nylon developer Rob Herrera of 9th Street Development Company, who came back to Delaware from New York and invested in the state, first in Wilmington and now in Seaford.
“For Seaford and Sussex County, I don’t need to tell people how important this is to us,” Meyer said. “The Community Bank is just the beginning.”
Next up to open in the center in the next month will be the BrightBloom Center. Meyer said the center and other facilities set to open later on will expand area health services, giving residents the best of 21st Century health care.
Among the future tenants are the Delaware Tech workforce training center, The Mill co-working space, and Vanderwende.
“This is a place for families, for small businesses, and all of western Sussex,” said Meyer. “It’s going to be more than a mall. It’s going to be a symbol of what we, not only in Seaford but across Delaware, can accomplish.”
“This is kind of a resurrection of a facility that made many of us,” Rep. Danny Short, a Seaford resident, said. He asked his wife for their first date at a pharmacy in the former center and they have been together for over 50 years.
“This is the start of a new era of a shopping center where a lot of people cruised around,” said Short.
“This project is a heavy lift,” Seaford Mayor Matt MacCoy said.“No one person or organization could have pulled this off. The residents made this happen.”
