Carol Ruth Harris of Seaford passed from this earth to her heavenly home on March 26, 2026.
She is survived by her sister, Judith Gorske; stepson, Jeffery Harris (Boe); stepdaughter, Pam Harris (Garrie); step-granddaughter, Casey Harris Johnson (Tim); and by numerous nieces, nephews, and “greats.”
Her childhood was spent in Barrington, Illinois and Crete, Illinois, where her father was a Lutheran pastor. She was the oldest of five children, the daughter of Alfred Kretzmann and Ruth Baumgartner Kretzmann.
Carol taught in Lutheran elementary schools in Illinois and Wisconsin. After the death of her first husband, Russell Griffin, she became a registered nurse and worked in the cardiac/surgical unit at Milwaukee Children’s Hospital. In 1983, she married Samuel Harris and continued her life in Seaford, Delaware. In retirement, Carol and Sam started new careers – volunteering in 10 different parks, from New Hampshire National Forests to the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.
Carol combined her love for her Lord and her God-given interest in music by serving as a church organist (and sometimes choir director) throughout her life, most recently at Christ Lutheran Church. She was blessed to be able to continue using her musical gifts at the Manor House by playing for the residents.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 28, at Christ Lutheran Church in Seaford.
There will be a memorial service at The Manor House on Tues., April 7, at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the BSSP (Bible Study for Special People) at Christ Lutheran Church, 315 N Shipley Street, Seaford, DE 19973.
