Marilyn Searcey named Delmar Citizen of the Year, banquet to take place May 21

The Greater Delmar Chamber of Commerce recently announced Marilyn Searcey as the 2024 Delmar Citizen of the Year Searcey, a pastor at Renovate Church and an adjunct social work instructor at Salisbury University, will be honored at the Citizen of the Year banquet on May 21.

“It’s a little overwhelming. It’s definitely not something I expected,” said Searcey, who has lived in Delmar since she was eight years old. “It’s very humbling. There’s so many awesome people here. It’s a pretty amazing community to be a part of.”

Heritage Day

Heritage Day will take place at the Nanticoke Indian Museum, located at 26673 John J. Williams Highway in Millsboro, on Saturday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature Keith Cunningham, native book author and linguistics report; Ragghi Rain, indigenous storyteller; and the Nanticoke Dance Troupe. Attractions include Native American storytelling, dancing, music, and vendors; traditional Native American food such as succotash and fry bread; and Indian tacos. The event is free to the public. Laurel Historical Society: Museum openings 

This year five historic properties and museums in the greater Laurel area will be open to the public on the first Sunday of each month, May through October, from 1 to 4 p.m. The open museums are: (1) Cook House, 502 E. 4th St., Laurel, (2) Hitchens Homestead, 205 Willow St., Laurel, (3) Rosemont, 121 Delaware Ave., Laurel, (4) Bethel Maritime Museum, 312 1st St., Bethel, and (5) Old Christ Church, Christ Church Rd., Laurel. Docents will be available at all five sites. Admission to all sites is free, but free will offerings are most gratefully accepted. The first day of museum openings will be Sunday, May 5. Questions?  Call George Denney at 302-745-1963.
