Robin Breasure, who made great contributions to the Delmar community during her family’s ownership of the recently closed Bryan and Brittingham store, was saluted as this year’s Delmar Citizen of the Year last Thursday at the Delmar VFW. The annual event is sponsored by the Greater Delmar Chamber of Commerce.

“The Chamber of Commerce does an incredible job of choosing people in this community who are unsung heroes,” said Rep. Tim Dukes, who served as the ceremony’s emcee.

Robin and her husband, Jeff, took over Bryan and Brittingham, which her parents Bob and June purchased in 1971.

“We just tried to steer the ship and keep it in the right direction,” Breasure said. “We grew up in a home where we learned the true meaning of joy: Jesus, others, and you.”

Breasure was joined at the ceremony by family and friends, including her son, Clint and his wife, Jessica in from Las Vegas, father Bob, brother Bobby, uncle Don, and many others.

Her company helped community members and organizations through support of events and fundraisers. She said she enjoyed getting to know the customers, hearing stories about their family members and animals. “It meant a lot to me and we’re going to miss that,” Breasure said.

“You didn’t work for Robin, you worked with Robin. Working in the town of Delmar is the best town I’ve worked in,” said former employee Kristy Downes.

Breasure received tributes from Maryland State Delegate Barry Beauchamp, Maryland Senator Mary Beth Carozza, Dukes, Delmar Senator Bryant Richardson, the Delmar VFW, the towns of Delmar, and the chamber.

The Delmar Lions Club served dinner and the event was hosted by the Delmar VFW. In attendance were past Delmar Citizens of the Year: Doug Niblett, Bill Brittingham, Jay Green, Dee McDonnell, Percy Elliott, Mary Lee Pase, John Layton, Michael Houlihan, Brenda Morris, Russell Smart, and Sandra Davis.
