Although the Laurel School District did not open for business for all students (PreK-12) until Tuesday, Sept. 1,  Kingdom Life Family Ministries decided to welcome students and teachers back to school a few weeks early with their annual Welcome Back to School Bar-B-Q. The gathering was held on Aug. 15 at the Roger C. Fisher Laurel River Park on W. 6th Street.

The sun-filled day was full of food, including hamburgers, hot dogs, potato chips and various desserts, drinks, games, moon bounces, giveaways, door prizes, line dancing, and music and entertainment by DJ Shakey, at no cost to the attendees. KLFM provided approximately 150 bookbags that included school supplies, such as pencils, notebooks, tablets, paper, crayons, erasers, etc. Each church member donated 10 bags to ensure each student would have school supplies to make their first school day a successful one.

KLFM spokesperson Danecia Page said, “We at KLFM welcome all persons with open arms, especially if you don’t have a church home. We sponsor Youth Sunday every second Sunday, where we encourage our young people to participate in the service, and that includes liturgical dancing, singing, and praise and worship. So, please come and visit us; we would love to have you, and we just love to give back to our community.”

Kingdom Life Family Ministries, a regional ministry that actively serves communities across western Sussex County, is led by Apostle Helena M. and Pastor Hayward R. Bailey, her husband. The ministry frequently holds community outreach events in the Laurel area. Service starts at 9 a.m. on each Sunday. The ministry is located at 11198 County Seat Highway in Laurel.
