Wilson H. Sturgis of Delmar passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 27, 2023, at Delmar Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born on July 1, 1937 in Delmar, the son of the late Wilson Webster Sturgis and Blanche Katherine (Hearne) Sturgis.

After graduating from Delmar High School he went to work for the Dupont Company in Seaford for 15 years. He later went to work for Oliphant Chevrolet in Salisbury as the service manager and for Perdue, Mountaire and Allen’s as a maintenance manager. He was a talented mechanic who loved to restore old cars which led him to opening Sturgis Repair Shop at his home, which he ran for many years. Wilson was active in his community where he served several years as a volunteer fireman for the Delmar Fire Department, was a member of the Delaware National Guard and was a past member of St. Stephen’s U.M. Church and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Delmar.

He is survived by daughters, Lezlie Downes (Darrell) and Amy Marvin (Joey); son, David Sturgis (Vince); stepson, John Dalfonso (Becky); grandchildren, Kevin, Trey, Logan, Jacob, Jonathan, Ashleigh, Amanda, Austin, and Megan; and great-grandchildren, Aiden, Khristian, Lalilah, and Mason.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Donna Lee Sturgis; and a daughter, Kathie Sturgis.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 11 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.
