William Benson Moore, Jr. of Laurel passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born on March 20, 1942 in Lewes, he was a son of the late William Benson Moore, Sr. and Ann Beatrice Hepburn Moore. After graduating from Laurel High School in 1960, Bill went to Tusculum University in Greenville, TN and upon graduation returned home to begin teaching at his old alma mater. He retired in June 1999 after a 30 years plus career.

Bill loved golf and trains. He played golf as often as possible. He was fortunate enough to have attended all the major golf tournaments except for the British Open. His love for golf led him to start a golf team at Laurel High School. In 2004, he was honored as the Henlopen Conference golf coach of the year.

Bill also had a passion for trains. He would spend hours working on his H O Layout. He and his wife attended many model railroad conventions over the years. Bill always said summer was for golf and winter was for trains.

He is survived by his wife, the former Colleen McQuillan, whom he married in Nov. 1972: a brother, Richard B. Moore (Melanie), Pensacola, FL; the loves of his life Francisco and Maria Solis; several nieces and nephews and his dog Tico. Services are being held privately for the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in Bill’s name, may be made to the Laurel Alumni Association, P.O. Box 382, Laurel, DE 19956. The Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West Street, Laurel, DE 19956 is serving the Moore Family.
