Mary Suzanne Murphey Layton of Laurel departed this life and passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Oct. 9, 2022. Suzanne was born in Salisbury on Sept. 17, 1943 and lived her early life in Hebron. 

Suzanne is survived by her husband, Alfred R. Layton; a brother and sister-in-law, Herbert Murphey III (Debbie); and her three children, Jennifer Nack (Debbie), Scott Lynch (Cindy), and Douglas Lynch (Becky). She is also survived by Alfred’s children, Byard Layton (Phyllis), Donna Miller (Richard Davis), and Fran Layton. Suzanne also had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Suzanne was a musician and taught piano lessons to hundreds of students over the years. She also played the organ, the accordion, and the violin. She played music for local churches and weddings throughout her life. She was a member of many community organizations and enjoyed serving in various positions. She directed many shows and was part of a small singing group that performed regularly on a radio program. Her hobbies included traveling extensively, sewing and entertaining. 

A private family only memorial service is planned for a later date. Bishop Greg Morris will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to: The Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Delaware 19963.
