Mary Ellen Dobson Metzger, a long-time resident of the Methodist Manor House in Seaford, passed from this life on Jan. 19, 2022. She was the daughter of A. Elizabeth Dobson and James Madison Dobson.
Mrs. Metzger was born in Baltimore and graduated from Eastern High School in 1954. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from what is now Towson University in 1958 and a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1969. At Towson she met her future husband, Melvin Metzger, who passed away in 2007. They were married for 50 years and had spent their careers in education in Maryland.
Mary felt privileged to have been an elementary teacher for 25 years. After she retired, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, and painting. At the age of 60 she began painting portraits.
Mary is survived by her son, M. Scott Metzger, his wife Sharon and their son Kevin of Queenstown, Md. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Metzger Edge. She is also survived by her grandsons Christopher B. Edge of Annapolis, Md. and Alexander M. Edge of Chestertown, Md., and nieces and nephews. Her brothers and sisters-in-law include Doris Poulsen of Bel Air, Md. and Robert Brown of Fallston, Md.
