Marvil Allen Tice passed away peacefully at home per his wishes on Oct. 11, 2022. He was born on Sept. 25, 1932 to the late Harley Oliver Tice and Margaret Rhodes Tice in Laurel. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harley Ernest Tice, in 2003; his wife, Betty Jean, in 2015; and son-in-law Michael A. Hudson, in 2021.

He is survived by five children, Jean (William) Collison, Allen (Terri) Tice, Steven Tice, Mavis Tice and Ginni (Dave Hamrick) Tice; five grandchildren, Jason (Bobbi Jo) Tice, Ashley (Kevin) Hilderbrand, Margaret (Bryan) Mack, Jenna (Chris) Absher, Dawson Hamrick; and 10 great-grandchildren, Hayley, Zoe, Maddie, Kaleb, Isabelle, Jace, Anderson, Lukas, Ethan and Ryder; and brother-in-law Maurice Tingle.

Marvil graduated from Laurel High School in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and came back home to Laurel. He later served in the Delaware Army National Guard from 1961 to 1964. He worked at the Seaford DuPont plant for 34 years, took early retirement and went into business with his oldest son and they had an appliance store for 20 years. He later worked at Shore Appliance Connection and Royal Farms.

Throughout his life, Marvil was a tireless and selfless volunteer in many organizations. He was a member of the Jaycees at the local and state levels, the Kiwanis Club, American Legion Post #19, Hope Lodge #4, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Forty and Eight, 33rd degree Master Mason, Boy Scouts and the Laurel Alumni Association. He ran the Boys State program for the American Legion for several years.

He was a member of Sailor’s Bethel UM Church and attended church every week he was able. Some of his favorite hobbies were square dancing, camping and gardening.

Funeral services will be held at Sailor’s Bethel UM Church in Bethel on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. Visitation will be held at the church from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Burial will be private. Reverend Bill Nack will officiate.
