Margaret V. Lankford of Sharptown passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at her home. She was born on April 13, 1923, a daughter of the late Mildred (Eskridge) Vickers and John A. Vickers.
Mrs. Lankford worked at the Dupont Company in Seaford from 1942 to 1985 where she served as the head librarian to the engineers and chemists working with the company. After her retirement, she volunteered at Asbury United Methodist Church where she was a member for many years, the Sharptown Firemen’s Carnival, Coastal Hospice, the Joseph House, and numerous “Walk for Life” fundraisers. Throughout the years, she also supported Heroes Haven, Lions Club, American Legion Post 218, Salvation Army, St. Jude, Shriners, Coastal Hospice, and Galestown, Wheatleys, Asbury and Mt. Vernon United Methodist Churches. She and her husband were also members of the Redmen’s Masonic Lodge.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Jacqueline Lankford of Sharptown; four generations of nieces and nephews; and was blessed with wonderful caregivers over the last two years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn W. Lankford; grandparents, Annie and Curtis Vickers; stepson, Terry Scott Lankford; brothers, John Edward Vickers and Robert W. Vickers; and a sister, Ruth Boyd.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at noon on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 603 Main Street in Sharptown. The Reverend David Bennett will officiate.
