The Jewel Hickman Trust is offering a scholarship of $500 to a graduating senior who will pursue a career in the medical field. The student must either attend Laurel High School or if attending another school, must live within the boundaries of the Laurel School District.
Jewel Hickman graduated from the University of Miami in the late 1950s with degrees in medical technology and radiology. She worked at both Peninsula Regional and Nanticoke Memorial through 1975 at which time she left her beloved science field to work with her husband, Harley Robert Hickman. Together they owned and operated multiple businesses and developed Old Church Landing. She would be pleased to know that as her legacy she is helping a high school senior pursue their education in the medical field.
Interested students can obtain an application from their high school guidance counselor. Must include an essay, recommendation and transcript.
The family of Mrs. Hickman has requested that the Laurel Women’s Civic Club select the recipient of this scholarship. Completed application packets can be returned to Laurel Women’s Civic Club, P.O. Box 105, Laurel, DE 19956. Applications must be postmarked by May 1, 2024.
