Karen Schrock Messick passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 2, 2023.

Karen was born in Milford and graduated from Cape Henlopen High School with the class of 1974. She was the manager of the Delmar Bonanza for many years and later began her career as a home health caregiver for the elderly.  Karen was a member of the VFW Post 6483 Ladies Auxiliary in Milford and Seaford Senior Center; she also attended Atlanta Road Alliance Church in Seaford. Above all else, Karen was a loving and supportive U.S. Marine Corp wife during her husband’s service in the military.  

Karen was preceded in death by her daughter, Amber Dawn Messick; her father, Ananias “Bill” Schrock; a brother, Jeff Schrock, and a brother-in-law, Gary Winter.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Mark Messick; her mother, Dorothy (Craft) Bush and husband Charlie; her granddaughter, Avery Leigh Messick; a brother, Larry Schrock and wife Stephanie; a sister-in-law, Beverly Schrock (wife of Jeff); a special cousin and family caretaker, Paula Veasey and husband Scott; three brothers-in-law, Danny Messick and wife Janet, Mike Messick and wife Tiziana, and William Messick and wife Brenda; sisters-in-law, Debbie Messick Wood and husband Randy, Tammy Winter and their families; her God-children, Nicholas Schrock and Angelina Chituck; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 14 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, Delaware 19968, where a time of visitation will be on Thursday evening, April 13 from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in Cokesbury Cemetery in Georgetown.
