Joseph McCabe, beloved educator and groundskeeper, passed Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional.
Joseph was born to Joseph and Helen McCabe in 1956 in Germantown, Pa. He grew up alongside his sisters Mary, Kathy, Rita, and Pat in Conshohocken, Pa. Joe went on to graduate from Temple University studying Horticulture in 1976 and Penn State University studying Turf Management in 1978. After gaining his degrees he moved to Seaford where he became the head greenskeeper for the Seaford Golf and Country Club. He was there for 28 years. There he met Mollie who was a server at the country club. The two went on to get married in September of 1985. After leaving the country club Joe took the position of head of grounds and fields at Sussex Technical High School. He also was an educator at Delaware Tech for many years.
One of Joe’s greatest joys was giving back. He hosted a yearly Christmas event for children in need for 18 years. He also had a great love for reading, gardening and his family. In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by his two sons Joseph and Kyle, their partners Nicole and Stacey; his grandchildren Daulton, Callie, and Karson; his sisters Mary, Kathy, and Pat, along with their spouses; his brother-in-law Terry Joseph and his wife; his sister-in-law Helen Joseph and many nieces and his nephew.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking donations in honor of Joseph be made to the Brandywine Valley SPCA located in Georgetown or the Bless Our Children Foundation. The memorial service will be held privately amongst his family. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel.
