John R. Nichols of Laurel passed away on Friday, Nov. 25, 2022.

He was born on Dec. 4, 1944, a son of the late James and Sally (Parsons) Nichols.

He attended Delmar High School. John served in the Delaware National Guard for five years before joining the Navy in 1966 and serving until 1969. He was a very proud Vietnam veteran and was an active member of the Delmar VFW Post 8276 and the Laurel American Legion Post 19.

He is survived by his two sisters, Carol Warrington and her husband Jerry, and Rose Hastings and her husband Irvin; three brothers, Dick Nichols and his wife Suzanne, Clyde Nichols and his wife Kathy, and Edgar Nichols and his wife Betty Ann; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Nichols.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Dec. 8 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. The funeral service will begin at noon. Interment with military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
