Gary Hearn of Georgetown passed away on March 10, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late William and Norma Jane Hearn. Gary was retired as a long-haul truck driver with Perdue for over 35 years. He will be remembered for his amazing love for his family, especially his wife, children and grandchildren, and being a “hardworking man.” His hobbies were fishing, watching television, and being ornery with his grandchildren.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Kay Hearn; sons, Gary Hearn, Jr. of Georgetown, and Michael Hearn and his wife Deana of Georgetown; daughter, Betsy Hearn of Georgetown; brothers, Richard Hearn and his wife Trudy of Laurel, and Thomas Hearn of Texas; sister, Sandra Whitelock and her husband Roger of Houston; the grandchildren he raised like his children, Mindy Hearn, Danielle Pettyjohn and her husband Jason, Dorothy Grant, and Kyler Grant; grandchildren Megan Hearn, Ryan Hearn and his wife Marie, and Gabe Hearn; 11 great-grandchildren, Miles, Jay, Ky, Jorden, Mymy, Kenna, Gannon, Bry, Ollie, Camari, and J’Den. Several nieces and nephews also survive him. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Levin Layfield, Kenneth Hearn, and James Hearn. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 26 at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West Street, Laurel, DE 19956. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions to: Disabled American Veterans Department of Delaware, P.O. Box 407, Camden, Delaware 19934. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel.
