Faye Moore Collins of Seaford passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Best Care Assisted Living in Reisterstown, Md., her home for the past four years. Faye is survived by her children, daughter Susan of Odenton, Md.; son Keith of Hanover, Pa.; granddaughter, Addison Rae; sister, Anne Moore Bradley of Tarboro, NC, and many nieces and nephews. Faye’s husband of 50 years, Herbert E. Collins, pre-decreased her in 2017.
Faye was born in Edgecombe County (Tarboro, NC) to William and Elizabeth Flye, and was the youngest of five children. She was a 1962 graduate of North Edgecombe High School. After graduation, she attended Chowan College in Mufreesboro, NC, and was later employed at the city of Tarboro Police Department. She was introduced to her future husband, Herb, by her aunt, Margaret McCormick, in 1966. Faye and Herb married in January 1967 and made their home in Seaford.
While her children were young, Faye was a homemaker and volunteered at her children’s school events. She later worked as a secretary at Hearn’s Insurance on High Street in Seaford, retiring in the early 1990s. Faye and Herb were both active members of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Seaford and the Kiwanis Club of Seaford. Faye will be remembered for her sweet iced tea, love for animals, and her southern accent, which she never lost even after living in Delaware for 50 years.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 5 at Hannigan Short Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West Street, Laurel, with a viewing from 2-3 p.m. The service will be held at 3 p.m., with the interment immediately following at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel.
