Ernest S. Messick, Sr. of Seaford passed away Sunday afternoon, Aug. 20, 2023 at TidalHealth ICU surrounded by his family.
He was born on Jan. 29, 1943 in Bridgeville, son of the late Levi Norman and Hannah Marie Messick.
Ernie worked for Allen Family Foods for over 30 years where he retired in 2004. His passions were the outdoors, gardening, his many dogs and especially family. Ernie could often be found relaxing in his backyard, filling his bluejay and hummingbird feedings, admiring his newest blooms in his garden, and enjoying the sunset on the dock. Home is where the heart was and there was no place he would rather be than Hearns Pond!
Ernie was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Nanticoke Yacht Club.
Ernie never missed an opportunity to tell anyone who would listen about his family and especially about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ernie is survived by his sisters Doris Dunaway and Nancy Hammond; children Ernest S. Messick, Jr. and his wife Michelle Messick, Suzanne Green, Joel Marvel and his wife Michelle Marvel; grandchildren Brooke Messick, Jenna Green, Kristin Green, Coulton Messick, Bradley Green, Grant Messick, Katelin Marvel, Jacob Marvel; great-grandchildren Joseph Silva, Rylee Talent, Benjamin Talent, and Marlee Shaffer.
Funeral services were held at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Seaford on Monday, Aug. 28.
