Dorsey Emory Whaley of Newark passed away peacefully on March 3, 2023 at Christiana Hospital.

Born on Aug. 1, 1926 in Concord, Del., Emory was the son of Dorsey Faleson Whaley and Elsie Elizabeth Lessley. He served in World War II as a member of the 81st Navy Construction Battalion or Seabees. He went on to work with Dupont for 40 years, as a Research Technician before retiring.

Emory Whaley was known for his love of cars, collecting antique toy cars, dancing, nature walking, driving, the beach and visiting with family. He will always be remembered for his positive attitude and kind, generous spirit.

Survivors include his son Keith Whaley (Patty) and daughter Kay Dorsey; his grandchildren Tim Dorsey (Lizzy Hutchins), Valerie Dorsey, Karla Barone (Mike), Emily Martin (Matt), Katie Wedeman; his brothers Robert Whaley (Carole), Billy Whaley (Doris) and his sister Eunice Townsend; his 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruth Ellen; his brothers, James, Burton, Paul; and his sister, Betty Baldree. He will be deeply missed by loved ones and all who knew him.

Funeral Services will be held at Doherty Funeral Homes on Saturday, March 18; 10 a.m. public viewing, 11 a.m. service at 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington. Visit www.dohertyfh.com. Graveside services will be on Monday, March 20 at 11:30 at Union United Methodist Church’s Cemetery, 2 N. Laws Street in Bridgeville.
