With great sorrow the Kernodle family announces the passing of Deborah Elaine Kernodle of Laurel, who passed away in the early morning hours of March 27, 2023 after her battle with cancer came to an end.

Deborah Kernodle was born on Feb. 17, 1962 to Wilbur Kernodle, Sr. and Conice Kernodle in Millsboro. Her childhood was spent with her five sisters and three brothers.

Debbie was a strong willed, independent, firecracker of a woman who had a mischievous smile.  Debbie loved to garden and in her home you could count on being surrounded by her love of plants. In her life her pride and joys were her sons who provided her with five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She was intelligent and hard working. Debbie put herself through school to become a paralegal while raising her children. Her persistence paid off when she began working as a legal assistant for Henry Clay Davis, III, P.A., a career that she found very fulfilling.

Debbie will be greatly missed and survived by her sons Jerod Kernodle of Laurel and  Justin Kernodle of Salisbury and his wife Angie; her grandchildren Kailee Kernodle, Riley Strouth, Madilyn Kernodle, Elizabeth Kernodle, Dominic Kernodle, and great-granddaughter Mckenna King; her siblings Sharon Koger of Virginia Beach, Arleen Hurlock and husband Bill of Seaford, Bertha Wilson and husband Bill of Greenwood, Susan Case and husband Peter of the U.K, Penny Sonzini of Florida, Walter Kernodle and wife Sylvia of Florida as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Wilbur Kernodle Sr., Conice Kernodle and brothers Robert Kernodle, and Wilbur Kernodle Jr.

Deborah’s celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 21 at the Blades Fire Hall located at 200 E. 5th Street, Blades, DE 19973. Visitation is at 1 p.m., service beginning at 1:30 p.m. followed by fellowship until 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to help assist with Deborah’s end of life expenses. Donations may be dropped off during the celebration of life, mailed to Arleen Hurlock at 8578 Concord Road, Seaford, DE 19973 or a donation to Delaware Hospice in Deborah’s name.
