A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Carmella Sylvia Guinta of Newark was held at The Church of the Blessed Sacrament on Tuesday, Nov. 28 with Rev. JCP Sullivan as celebrant and Fr. Anthony Lonzo as concelebrant. Interment followed in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Carmella died at Licking Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023. She was born in Staten Island, New York on Nov. 15, 1928, to the late Angelo and Louise (DiBelli) Abbruzzi.

A longtime parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Carmella was devoted to her faith and family. She was a homemaker by heart and took great joy in cooking for her family, especially homemade bread and pizzas for Friday nights, family Sunday pasta dinners, and home cut french fries and special soups when someone was under the weather. She also like to crochet and work with ceramics.

Carmella loved her family and will be greatly missed by her children, Salvatore Guinta Jr., Donna Williams, Jim (Julie) Guinta, Frank (Antoinette) Guinta, Joseph Guinta (fiancée, Jenny Stickle), and Chris (Don) Smythe; son-in-law, Richard Barron; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren (plus three more on the way); one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Carmella was preceded in death by her husband, Salvatore S. Guinta Sr.; daughter, Camille Barron; grandson, Levi Guinta; and nine siblings.

Memorials in Carmella’s name can be made to the Dementia Society of America; or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
