Betty Jane Towers of Seaford passed away on Aug. 8, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Milton, she was the daughter of the late Willard Sherman and Elizabeth Shockley Sherman. 

Betty had a long fulfilling career as an elementary teacher with the Indian River School District from 1971 until her retirement. She loved teaching and obtained her master’s degree over her career. She attended Christ Evangelistic Church in Laurel; she belonged to the “Delaware Campers Association,” and loved camping with her family, quilting, gardening, and artwork. 

She is survived by her son Ricky Long and his wife Debora; daughters Polly Pusey and her husband David, Kathy Bradley; grandchildren Patience Wells, Stephanie Cooper, Katlin Daisey, Brooks Bradley, Brent Bradley, and Robbie Long; her special family member Charlotte Kemp, and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive her. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children Elwood Long, second husband and father of her children William Carter, and her third husband William Towers; siblings George Sherman, Raymond Sherman, Arthur Sherman and Marie Sherman. 

A viewing was held on Tuesday, Aug. 16 at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel followed by the funeral service. Pastor Joe LeCates officiated and interment followed in Blades Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Betty Tower’s honor to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
