On May 15, 2023, Alina Hofman passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Christiana. Alina was born in Poland in 1941. She was the youngest child of Bronislaw and Konstancja Jurkiewicz. She married Walter Hofman in Koszalin in 1967. They lived in north-western Poland for two years before moving to southern Poland.
Walter was the Chairman of the Solidarity movement in Bielsko-Biala. During those times Alina also played a role in the Solidarity struggle. Walter was persecuted by the Communist government and, as a result, he was forced to leave Poland and go into exile. Alina, Walter, and their children immigrated, as political refugees, to the United States in 1982. They arrived in Philadelphia where they lived for five years before moving to Bridgeville. In the U.S., Alina worked as a seamstress for many years. She was also a homemaker and an excellent host. She prepared delicious meals for family and friends with whom she made memories that will live on in their hearts forever. Through her love, her actions, her words, and her life, she taught everyone around her to be loving, kind and generous.
Alina was preceded in death by her beloved husband Walter. She is survived by her son Daniel, her daughter-in-law Ines, her daughter Magdalena, her son-in-law Curtis, and her grandchildren Alexander (Katie), Christyn (Jacob), Jon, Spencer, and Zachary (Kayla). They all say that she gave them the best gift they could have which was to be loved unconditionally. Her love for them and their love for her will endure for eternity.
A celebration of life will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, at Parsell Funeral Home, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE. Family and friends may begin visiting at 2 p.m.
