Sharon Jenny Elliott Jones of Laurel passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, surrounded by family and a lot of love. Sharon was born on Oct. 13, 1943, to John Monroe Elliott and Louise Mumford Elliott of Sharptown, Maryland, and was the middle child of five. She graduated from Mardela High School in 1961.

Sharon always loved flowers and decorating with them. As early as 13, she would decorate her church with flower arrangements for special occasions. She created the floral arrangements for the center table in the lobby of Crossroad Community Church weekly until the end of May. Marvin would take her to buy the flowers and set her up at the kitchen table with her walker, as she instructed him which bush in the yard to pull greenery from. She did this for most of the 20 years they attended Crossroad Church.

She also taught Sunday School for more than 50 years and created legendary Vacation Bible Schools for the children, helping parents bring up their kids “in the way they should go”. In order to send her two children to Epworth Christian School, she opened her own business with Home Interiors & Gifts, and for 28 years she hosted in-home parties, trained ladies to decorate their homes, utilized the idea of grouping things in threes, and taught how high above the couch a shelf or picture should be. Sharon was known for her love for children and everyone she met. She loved leading Girl Scouts, chaperoning school trips, and dressing up in crazy attire to cheer on her own kids and grandkids from the sidelines.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Marvin; her daughter, Amy Jones Hobbs; son- in-law, John Hobbs; son, Johnny Jones; and daughter-in-law, Lori Jones; five grandchildren, Jordan Hobbs Walsh (Eric), Jonathan Hobbs, Nathan Hobbs, Samuel Jones, Jack Jones; three great-grandchildren, Ella Walsh, Ava Walsh, Whitfield Walsh; brother, John David Elliott (Carol); sister, Candice Sammons (Ray); and countless nieces and nephews.

Sharon will be missed by all who know her, but she is moving on to better things where her body no longer holds her back, and she has more pretty flowers than she can imagine to arrange and decorate with. Her family is immensely thankful for her.

Visitation and a Celebration of Life were held at Crossroad Community Church on Sunday, June 28. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.hsdfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hannigan-Short-Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel.
