The Seaford School District’s Assistant Superintendent Jason Cameron and Director of Special Education Virginia Hastings presented to the Seaford City Council two 2025 Seaford School District Hall of Fame inductees. The Hall of Fame is in the second year and will welcome the Seaford Director of Economic Development and 1993 SHS graduate Trisha Newcomer.

The Seaford School District announced two inductees into the Hall of Fame at a recent Seaford Council meeting. The second presentation was made to Councilwoman Dr. Stephanie Grassett, who will accept the honor for her late husband, Dr. Mike Smith. Dr. Smith served in many roles at Seaford including special education teacher, associate principal, principal, Director of Special Education, coach, athletic director, school board member as well as many years of volunteer work that benefited children and young adults. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place during a weekend of festivities from Jan. 30-31, 2026.
In city business, the O&I SIng LLC and property owner that is building the Take Out Restaurant located at 22928 Sussex Highway requested the approval for the final site plan. The current building will be demolished with a new 3130 square foot restaurant with 48 parking places. The plan also includes a dual lane drive thru for customers. Council approved the site plan.
Council approved a request to apply for an Outdoor Recreation, Parks & Trails (ORPT) grant for the replacement of the north side of the Seaford High School tennis courts. The total grant request is $150,000 to mill and pave, resurface and paint the northern courts. The actual full estimate is $475,000.00 and the city will apply for additional grants if ORPT is awarded. Council spoke of the seriously poor condition of the courts. The school no longer may hold home matches until it is repaired.
The Seaford Night Out at the Seaford Police Department is Thursday, Oct. 9 from 5-7 p.m.
The Sussex County Association of Towns meeting, hosted by the City of Seaford, is set for Oct. 1 at the Ross Station Event Center beginning at 5 p.m.
The Pink Ribbon Cancer Walk is on Monday, Oct. 6 in Seaford. The community is invited to join TidalHealth and the city of Seaford for the annual Pink Ribbon Walk. The walk begins at 5:30 p.m. at the TidalHealth Allen Cancer Center, located 701 Middleford Road.
