Howard Edward “Reds” Griffith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away on Thursday, July 17. Born on July 14, 1942, in Camden, New Jersey, Howard grew up to be a man of many talents and passions. He graduated from Mardela High School in 1960, where he proudly earned the Athlete of the Year award in his senior year, showcasing his competitive spirit early on.

Howard served his country with honor in the U.S. Army. After returning home, he dedicated 38 years of his professional life to the Dupont Company in Seaford, where he retired after holding multiple management positions. His work ethic and commitment made him a respected figure in his field. Outside of his professional life, Howard was actively involved in his community. He served on the Laurel School District School Board, was a member of the Lions Club, and contributed to the Sons of the American Legion.

Known for his deep love of family, Howard spent many joyful hours coaching his daughters in little league softball when they were young, nurturing their skills and passion for sports, just as he had. Howard was a member of Crossroad Community Church in Georgetown, and touched many lives over the years. An avid golfer, Howard found joy and camaraderie on the course, cherishing the time spent with friends and family.

More than anything, Howard was a family man at heart. Above all, he will be remembered as a wonderful husband to his beloved wife of 59 years, Judy A. Griffith and a dedicated father to Wendy Thornton (Frank), Kimberly Grimes (Lee), and Shari Schoeneberger (Jason). He was also a proud grandfather to Jacob Grimes (Jeslyn), Nicholas Grimes, Tilman Schoeneberger, and Hudson Schoeneberger, and a great-grandfather to Gwendolyn Rose Grimes. Howard is survived by his brothers, Robert Griffith (Ruth) and Ricky Robinson (Faith), and sister-in-law, Edna Griffith, as well as a many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Thomas “Buck” Griffith, mother, Bertha “Bert” Meyers Griffith, and a brother, Richard Howard “Reds” Griffith.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 25 at 11 a.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.
