Kenneth George Miller Sr., a cherished member of the Delaware community for his later 40 years, passed away on June 18, 2024. Born on May 27, 1937, in Baltimore, Ken’s journey was one marked by dedication and a commitment in all his endeavors personally and professionally.
Ken leaves behind a legacy of love and loyalty evidenced in his family. He is survived by his children, Norma Slade and her husband Charlie, and Kenneth Miller Jr. and his wife Pam. His wisdom and affection for life will live on through his grandchildren, Michael Tubbs, Amber Clark, and Robert Miller, as well as their spouses, and his cherished great-grandsons, Colton Miller and Max Clark. Ken is also survived by his brother Vernon Miller and his wife Helen and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Margaret Miller and his wife of 47 years. His wife, Norma Miller, stood by him through the pleasure of raising their children, his labor relations career goals, and the favor and challenges of their now retired poultry farm in Bridgeville. Ken enjoyed his retirement with his companion, Betty McKeown for his last 18 years with time spent in Florida in the winters until 2018.
Ken proudly served in the Navy for four years before embarking on a career in trucking and ultimately fulfilling career as a Labor Coordinator for Yellow Freight Trucking Company. Later in life, he embraced his passion for agriculture by semi-retiring to raise poultry with his spouse and son, bringing triumph to his days, and nourishing the community. Ken was known for his ability to fix anything, a handyman par excellence whose craftsmanship was seen in both his meticulous woodwork, his Delaware beach home, and his well-kept chicken farm where he and his wife, son and his son’s family reside.
An alumnus with a bachelor’s degree in business, Ken’s intellect was matched by his manual skills and his friendly approach with everyone he met. His 54-year membership with the Masonic Glen Burnie Lodge #213 and Hiram Lodge #21 Seaford, underscored his dedication to community and brotherhood.
Handy, loving, and compassionate—these words capture the essence of Ken, who infused every day with purpose and care. He liked to stay busy. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him or were on the receiving end of his handshake.
