Mary Ann Pickren (Stout) passed away on Jan. 1, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Her final moments were spent peacefully in the loving care of the wonderful men and women of Our Lady of Hope Care facility in Richmond, Va.
Ann was born to Theodore (Dode) and Pauline Stout on Sept. 12, 1936. She spent her childhood with her two brothers and many cousins in the small mill town of Thomaston, Ga.
Ann valued her education and after graduating high school from Robert E. Lee HS, she pursued and proudly received her degree from Piedmont Nursing School in 1957 in Atlanta, Ga. She spent most of her career at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and Methodist Manor House in Seaford. When she wasn’t nursing, Ann was a dedicated stay-at-home mom to her three children, Kathy, Kenny, and James.
Adored for her spirited nature, straightforwardness, and sense of humor, Ann was a wonderful storyteller, and she loved to tell them. She would do anything to make someone laugh. Family was everything to Ann; her happiest times were spent with her children and grandchildren, cooking southern meals, and playing board games. She was also an avid reader, a history enthusiast, and a doting dog mom to her beloved pet, Sasha.
Ann was predeceased by her parents Theodore and Pauline Stout; brother Thomas Melvin Stout (Betty Jo); daughter Kathy Pickren Psota; and son Kenneth R. Pickren Jr.
She is survived by her son James Pickren (Lisa); brother Robert Stout (Jimmie); grandchildren Riley Pickren Nemecz (JJ), Cooper Pickren, Ryan Psota, Evan Psota, James Pickren II, and Olivia Pickren; and great-granddaughter Sadie Nemecz.
