Shirley A. Crowe Ellis of Seaford passed away on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023 at Christiana Hospital in Christiana.

She was born on June 12, 1944 in Oxford, Md., the daughter of the late Wilson George Crowe and Carmon Marie Faulkner.

She graduated from Colonel Richardson High School and married Sewell E. Donovan.  He preceded her in death on May 28, 1996. She married Calvin Ellis on June 16, 2000 and they made their home in Seaford.

Shirley loved to serve the Lord. Her faith was strong and she led a life of service to her church and to others. She served in many areas and enjoyed singing with the choir as well as a quartet that performed from time to time. She was a beloved member of the “Donovan Family Singers”. Shirley was an avid bowler, a skilled golfer and she loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband Calvin Ellis of Seaford; a daughter Dena Donovan-Quinton; four grandchildren Allan Culver, Aaron Culver, Megan Hudson, and Brandon Donovan; 12 great-grandchildren: Everett, Ella Grace, Kaleb, Landon, Mason, Nolan, Jaidyn, Kreidyn, Weston, Mollie, Chase and Caleigh; and sisters Bonnie Stuart and Dianna Donovan.

In addition to her parents and her first husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Reverend Mark Donovan, a sister, Linda May Hubbard and a brother, Bobby L. Crowe.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg. Burial was private.
