Robert “Bob” L. Whaley of Laurel entered his eternal home on Aug. 25, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Laurel, he was the son of the late Clarence F. Whaley and Mary Ellen Wilkerson Whaley. He was a graduate of Laurel High School in the class of 1952.  

After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. Bob was retired as a flock supervisor with over 22 years of service. He was a member of the Laurel School Board from 1965-1974, OPI Poultry Association, Director and President of the Laurel Auction Market, Charter Member of the Laurel Ruritan Club, American Legion Post #19, and Trinity Methodist Church (Elliott Worship Center). 

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Adell J. Whaley; sons, Jeffrey Shockley and his wife Sherry, David Whaley and his wife Debbie, and Stephen Whaley and his wife Cindy; daughter, Donna Lee Cecil; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack Whaley and his wife Lorraine, Doug Whaley and his wife Patty, and Wayne Whaley and his wife Helen; sister-in-law Charlene “Sug” Whaley; and brother-in-law Preston Conaway. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Gray-Whaley who passed away in 1970; brothers, Richard Whaley and Alan Whaley; sister, Arlene Conaway, and his great-grandson, Dylan DeShields. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2 at the Elliott’s Worship Center, 17237 Phillips Hill Road, Laurel, Delaware 19956. A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. at Elliott’s Worship Center. Pastor Larry Whaley and Pastor Shane Phillips will officiate.
