Marjorie Sammons Baker passed away on Dec. 31 at home with her daughters. She was born on Oct. 22, 1936 in Seaford and was the first baby delivered by local physician Dr. John Lynch. She was the eldest daughter of the late Kathleen and Robert Sammons.
Margie worked many years as a secretary for Hertrich Pontiac Buick. She then began a career in retail and retired from Fashion Bug after managing stores in multiple locations. Later in her career she traveled the region and assisted in the start-up of many stores including setting up their point-of-sale systems. She won the Mae K. Excellence Award in 1990.
Known as the “Baker Girls,” Margie raised her three daughters independently. They enjoyed long beach days on Fenwick Island, trips to Luray Caverns and Fort Myers, Fla., and family gatherings at every birthday and holiday. Her priority was always family. She loved her sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with every fiber.
Margie never met a stranger. Her sincere smile, infectious laugh, quick wit, and often off-color sense of humor has been enjoyed by every person who ever met her. She opened her home to many friends and family members who found themselves in difficult times.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Mary Ann Hill, Faye Adams, Joyce Stahl, Doris Walden, and Johnny Sammons. Margie is survived by her daughters and their spouses – Judy Schrader (Jack Abel), Debbie O’Donnell (Charlie) and Holly Ogle (Ben); her grandchildren – Jason Cooper (Courtney), Katie Ogle Burton (Ryan), Sammy Ogle (Courtney), Jared Schrader and Emma O’Donnell; and great-grandchildren – Lyla Cooper, Charlotte Cooper, Scarlett Ogle, Kade, Bo and Ryker Burton.
Visitation for friends and family will be Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cranston Funeral Home 300 N. Shipley St. in Seaford; Burial will be private.
The family would like to thank Margie’s caretakers – Andra Cannon, Tracy Hurley, Debi Thomas, Sue Dykes and Patty Wildermuth for their love and dedication. And a very special thank you to Richard and Trudy Hearn who unconditionally loved and supported the Baker Girls.
