Jeffrey Holt Dolby of Laurel departed this life on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022.

He was born Dec. 2, 1956 in Milford, a faithful son of the late Harvey L. Dolby (2018) and Dorothy “Dot” Holt Dolby (2011).

Jeff graduated from Laurel High School with the class of ’74. Not long after graduation he learned of a job opening at ConRail and started his railroad career at age 18. Jeff was a skilled carpenter and woodworker and started in the Bridges & Buildings Department. He retired from Norfolk Southern in 2017 after 42 years of service.

On Dec. 31, 1976, Jeff married his high school sweetheart, Wendy Lowe, and since then they were rarely apart. Together they loved sailing and spending time with their “C-Dock” friends at the marina in Dewey Beach. They also loved long walks, bike rides and traveling. Several years ago, Jeff proudly earned his Master Boat Captain license as he enrolled in the class alongside of his son, Matthew. Jeff was a faithful and active member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Laurel, where he will be greatly missed. Jeff was very active in his Laurel community and quietly went about helping anyone that needed it. All that knew Jeff will remember his kind, gentle smile, and servant’s heart.

He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of almost 46 years, Wendy Lowe Dolby; son, Matthew Lee Dolby; sister, Dolly D. Thompson (Russel); brothers, Steve M. Dolby (Debbie) and William David Dolby (Sharon); many beloved nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Nancy B. Lowe; brother-in-law, Wyatt R. Lowe (Terri); and sister-in-law, Sallie Koslowski (Rodger).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Christopher Lee Dolby.

A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held on Friday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Laurel. The Reverend James Manion will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jeff’s memory to St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 600 S. Central Ave., Laurel, DE 19956.
