Stephen Daniel Reagan of Mountain View, Cal., and formerly of Laurel, passed away on Feb. 15, 2025.

At 6-feet 5-inches tall, Steve was a true BIG brother to John (Jewel) Reagan, Jim (Tana) Reagan, and Elizabeth (Gregg) Milo. He was predeceased by brother Mike Reagan, and our parents, Jim and Gloria Reagan.

Steve was an ultra-marathon runner, competing in the Western States Endurance Run 100-mile race three times, and completing it on his third attempt. In the following years, Steve trained with and helped other runners achieve success in that challenging race. He loved running on the trails around his home, and cherished the relationships he made with his many running buddies. These were some of the best times of his life, and these friends became his California family.

He loved fine wines, stately clocks, and music of all genres. A particular favorite was French jazz singer Zaz, who sent personal notes to him in his (many!) CD purchases. Steve’s passion was travel, and he visited and often joined races in faraway places like Mongolia, China, Hawaii, and all throughout Europe. He met his former wife, Cecilia, during his international travels, and while their marriage wasn’t meant to be, they enjoyed a lasting life-long friendship.

Steve’s favorite place was France, and while he enjoyed times spent in Paris, it was the community of Avignon that he loved best. He shared many bottles of Châteauneuf-du-Pape from that region, and his gifts of fine wine became a Christmas tradition. He particularly enjoyed helping bottle fine wines from his friends’ local R & W Winery, gifting the wine he’d helped bottle, and proudly wearing the t-shirts celebrating the bottling events.

Steve was an avid photographer, which was lucky for all of us because he shared his beautiful travel photos with family and friends. Many of these remain in his Facebook account as a testament to his sense of adventure.

While living and traveling far from family, Steve was a family man at heart. He was a frequent visitor home, and kept in close contact with his siblings. We each have favorite tales that we were able to recite to him at the end of his time here on earth. We will cherish these memories, and rejoice in new ones so generously shared by his friends.

Special thanks to Redwood Hospice, Palo Alto Commons, Mike Scoggin of Inspired Senior Advisors, and all who made his final journey easier. The most inspiring of brothers, Steve showed tremendous courage and grace in the face of his illness. We are fortunate for his example, and will celebrate now that he is freed from the bonds of Parkinson’s Disease, and running his greatest races in heaven.

Services will be held in Florida in the spring, and we are planning to spread his ashes on the running trails that he loved so much near his home. Please remember our brother Steve with a prayer, a kindness to others, and a great glass of burgundy.
