The Seaford baseball team defeated Odyssey Charter in five innings by a score of 12-2 last Saturday with Vince Evans III starting on the mound, pitching two hitless innings and striking out five hitters to earn the win. Seaford utilized relievers Hunter Speed, Ashton Trivits, and Elijah Solomon to close out the next three innings. Speed led Seaford with three hits and three RBIs and teammate Colin Hignutt had two hits with three RBIs in the game.

In the first inning Evans singled and both Khalil Kilgo and Trivits walked to load the bases. Seaford scored the first two runs on an RBI single to right field by Speed and Hignutt followed with a two-run double for a 4-0 lead. Odyssey committed an error to put  Solomon on base and then a wild pitch scored another run for a seven run inning.

The Blue Jays added two more runs with two outs in the second inning. Catcher Erick Sorcia Nava reached on a shortstop error. Courtesy runner Brenden West stole second base and then scored on a single off the bat of Hignutt who then scored on a single by Solomon for the 9-0 lead.

Speed came to mound in relief of Evans and scored three outs for Seaford in spite of Odyssey threatening to score on a walk and error. Seaford added another run in the bottom of the third inning with an in park home run by Evans III for a 10-0 lead. Senior Ashton Trivits walked and Speed doubled to put runners at the corners. Odyssey committed an error that scored Trivits but Speed was stranded on base on an infield final out pop up.

Odyssey scored a run in the fourth inning when Trivits, who came in relief of Speed, hit a batter who later scored. Seaford’s defense ended the threat when an Odyssey player was caught in a run down and catcher Nava received a throw home and  put the tag on for the second out. Trivits went on to score a strike out to end the inning.

Odyssey scored a second run in the top of the fifth inning when two runners walked and scored a run on a fielder’s choice for an 11-2 score. The Blue Jays ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Trivits reached on an error and later scored when Speed hit a single for the 12-2 game win.
