The Seaford Blue Jays baseball team was led by senior Vincent Evans III who threw a complete shutout game with 14 strikeouts and no walks against visiting Woodbridge in a 1-0 win.
In the opening inning, Christopher Walsh made Evans work, fouling off three pitches before catcher Kaleb Thompson gloved a foul tip for the out.
Uriah Taylor Brown doubled to open the bottom of the inning but Woodbridge pitcher Cale Hudson got three outs to end the inning. Brown singled in the third inning for his second hit of the game, but Hudson once again pitched his way out of the inning.
In the top of the fourth, Walsh singled to right field but was picked off when he was caught leaning a bit too much off first base.
The Blue Jays scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on an error that put Taylor-Brown on base. Evans worked the pitches and Brown stole second base. Hudson gave up a walk to Evans and then Miguel Sabino-Pineda reached on the second error of the inning by Woodbridge and the bases were loaded. Thompson’s ground ball to shortstop scored Brown for the 1-0 lead. Seaford left the bases loaded going into the top of the seventh inning. Evans showed no signs of weakening and closed the win with an infield fly ball and two strikeouts.
Hudson gave up just two hits in the game and six strikeouts but two fielding errors handed the junior pitcher the loss. Walsh scored the only hit for the Blue Raiders. Taylor Brown had two hits for the Blue Jays and Thompson added the RBI.
