Ruth Elaine Horne of Laurel passed away on April 7, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Port Republic, Virginia on Jan. 28, 1937, daughter of Charlotte Spitzer and William T. Spitzer. She was married to Troy W. Horne, Jr. from Jan. 14, 1957 until he passed away on Sept. 22, 2004.
Ruth worked for many years for her parents at Rehoboth Liquor Store until it closed, and when she moved to Laurel she started working for Steve Reese at Reese’s “A Frame Liquor Store” in Laurel from 1993 until she retired in 2020.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Pete Spitzer; son-in-law, Kelly Frazier; grandson, JR. Frazier; granddaughter, Donna Horne; and grandson, Troy W. Horne IV. Ruth is survived by her four children, Troy W. Horne III, Elaine R. Sanders of South Carolina, Romona Mirro and her husband Nicholas Mirro of Laurel, Roxanna Frazier of Little Creek; grandchildren, Shanon Moyer, Malinda Meeks, Aaron Doyle, Tiffany Young, Michelle Lancaster, Bobby Sanders, and James Horne; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
At Mrs. Horne’s request, no formal services will be held. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel.
