The Laurel girls’ soccer team scored six goals for a 6-1 non-conference win over Seaford. Seaford’s Ava DeGroat had seven saves and Betty Evans added three in the Blue Jays’ loss.

Laurel had the first shot on goal early in the first half and DeGroat stopped the assault with her first save of the match. Seaford’s Lina Pertuz Torrijoas pushed up field with the ball while Laurel’s Kayli Moyer closed off the lane for the take-away to redirect the possession.

Laurel’ s quick reaction to a redirection and shot put the Bulldogs on the board with a 1-0 lead. Seaford’s thwarted a corner kick but junior Zully Gonzalez-Perez put Laurel up 2-0 with 20 minutes on the clock.

Laurel’s Kelsie Wooters pushed forward but Seaford’s Whitney Garcia Garcia got her foot on the ball for the defensive stop. Seaford put a score on the board with seven minutes on the clock in the first quarter when Emily Lopez Tovar passed to Lilliana Mendoza for the score.

Laurel’s Isabella Banks responded a minute later with a 25 yard shot that was blocked from the view of DeGroat and Laurel went up 3-1.

In the second half Seaford had an opportunity with two corner kicks at the 47th minute and after a battle in front of the goal, Laurel won back possession with a goal kick. Laurel struck on their next possession with a strong kick to the circle and the ball struck the arm and hand awarding the penalty kick. The Bulldogs missed wide and the score remained 3-1.

Laurel went on to score three quick goals including a second penalty kick score and unassisted goal by Kelsie Wooters. The Bulldogs won their third match of the season with the 6-1 win over Seaford.
