Ellie Everton, a third grader at Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School in Bridgeville, had a heart transplant as an infant and has been fighting rejection of the heart for the past seven months.

Her illness is causing many unexpected expenses for the family and a lengthy stay at the A.I. du Pont Hospital for Children in Wilmington.

Details about Ellie’s condition and a list of fundraisers are on her Facebook page, Ellie’s Journey.

An Evening at Ellie’s Enchanted Forest, with dinner, dancing and games, will be held on Friday, April 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School. Food will be provided by Marilyn’s Catering. Cost is $10 and tickets can be purchased at the school.

An all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner will be held at the Bridgeville Fire House on Wednesday, April 15, from noon to 5 p.m. All proceeds will go to the family. Cost is $12 for adults and $7 for kids 10 and younger.
