The Laurel Alumni Scholarship Foundation recently announced that the scholarship forms for 2022 are now available. This year’s scholarship is in the amount of $2,500.

An applicant for the Laurel Alumni Scholarship does not have to be graduating from Laurel High School but must be a graduating son or daughter of a member, in good standing, of the Laurel Alumni Association for at least three years prior to June 2022.

You can become a member of the Laurel Alumni Association if you are a Laurel graduate. Also, membership is granted if either of the following qualifications are met: 1. Applicant is a spouse of a Laurel High graduate, 2. Applicant is a current resident of the Laurel School District, 3. Applicant is employed full time by an employer whose business is located in the Laurel School District, 4. Applicant attended the Laurel School District for at least two years between the seventh and 12th grades, or 5. Applicant is the son, daughter, or grandchild of a current or former member of the LAA.

The Laurel Alumni Scholarship Foundation also administers this additional scholarship:

The Helen Kirk Deputy Ellis Scholarship- This scholarship was established in honor of Mrs. Ellis, a dedicated teacher in the state of Delaware for 42 years. She taught for 33 years in Laurel as a Latin instructor. This scholarship is awarded to a Laurel High School graduate who is attending a four year college or university and has met the other requirements. This year’s scholarship is $3,800.

Applications for membership in LAA and scholarship forms may by picked up at The Real Estate Market, located next to Shore Stop on North Central Avenue.

The association has granted over $729,200 in scholarships to 447 students over the last 31 years. This monetary support to graduating seniors continuing their education has been made possible by the generous contributions of its members and contributions of various sources.

The application forms for either scholarship are available at the Laurel Guidance Office. Applications are also available online at www.lhs.laurel.k12.de.us. All completed applications are due back to the foundation by April 1.
