Evangeline A. Ashorobi was born to the late Alfred Lee Cannon, Sr. and Bernice Palmer-Cannon in Seaford on March 5, 1964. She peacefully departed this life on May 5, 2020.
She was educated in the Indian River School District in Delaware. She graduated from Sussex Central High School in 1982.
Evangeline affectionately known as “Van”, was reared in a God fearing family. The Cannons faithfully attended and served at the Light House Church of God in East New Market, Md., Booker St. Church of God in Georgetown and Cathedral of Love in Seaford. Van also attended Agape Ministries in Seaford and Citadel of Hope Deliverance Ministries Inc., in Seaford under the leadership of her brother, Bishop Alfred L. Cannon, Jr. Van served in the capacities of Usher, Facilities Management, and enjoyed being a part of the Women’s Ministry.
Van enjoyed many things. She was a collector of dolls. A few of her favorite things included crafting, helping others, puzzle books, coloring, talking to friends, and spending time with family over a great meal. On Saturdays she enjoyed yard selling with a special aunt, “Aunt Rachel”. Family was so important to Van. From her siblings, nieces, nephews, children and her pride and joy, her grandkids. She often told her children “take care of my grandkids.”
Van, being the helping/caring person she was, also found employment in areas where she could serve and have a chance to talk to many people. She was employed as a Sales Associate at the following places: Dress Barn, Dollar General, Chocolate Factory, Sears and Wendy’s.
Van was a very opinionated person and always shared, with her opinion, “What they said”. Although no one really knew who “they” were, Van often quoted them. Van opened her home to many, and her home was always filled with “great times” for everyone. She only had one requirement “Be quiet so I can watch the news”.
Evangeline was proceeded in death by her parents: Alfred Lee Cannon, Sr. and Bernice Palmer-Cannon, siblings: Alfreida, Jeffrey, Alice, twin sister Evelyn, and son Tyrell.
She leaves to cherish her children Deangelo Cannon, Sr. (Lasondra) of Laurel, DE, Monique Dorsey, Taiwan Cannon (Nancy), Marcus Ashorobi (Denisha) all of Seaford, DE; siblings Dennard Cannon (Pittsville, MD), Bishop Alfred Cannon, Jr. (Patience) of Seaford, DE; a special friend Tyson Harmon of Millsboro, DE; 15 precious grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
