The inaugural Downtown Seaford Association Fall Festival packed a lot of fun and activities into a successful day for the city. If there was a day that could be described as an almost perfect fall day to hold the festival, it was Saturday, Oct. 26. The only impediment was the gusts of wind that played havoc with canopies that lined both sides of High Street in Seaford.

Two of the events preceding the festivities, yet culminating with the festival were the Scarecrow Decorating Contest and the “Fall Leaves and Pumpkins Fundraiser” for the Western Sussex Boys & Girls Club in Seaford. Five hundred dollars was raised by the Downtown Seaford Association, and was presented at the festival. Nine local businesses allowed their spaces to be decorated with small leaves and pumpkins; donors paid a dollar to sponsor a pumpkin or a leaf. Aleman & Associates, C & C Country Kitchen, Café Milano, Coldwell Banker Premier, Dick’s Barbershop, Fantasy Hair Salon, Gallery 107, Lickety Splitz, and Southern Grill all hosted this fundraiser.

Those who walked along downtown Seaford were able to enjoy the creativity of those who participated in the first Scarecrow Decorating Competition. Winners included: first prize, Bricolage Barn; second prize, Seaford Community Garden; third prize, Lauren Hilderbrand. The entire community is invited to participate in next year’s competition, which will also include more expansive categories.

Those in search of pre-Christmas deals were able to find vendors selling wares to fit any interest. Home baked goodies tempted the palettes of many. Organizations, businesses and local churches were well represented, as they also were available to highlight services they provide for the community. The aroma of fresh cooked food from one of the many food trucks enhanced every festival goer’s experience. Music filled the air, with entertainment by Robin and the Hoods, as well as Legendarios Musical.

There were plenty of fun things for the community to do as well, for both young and old. Attendees were able to witness a chili cook-off, donut eating contest, and more. Children were able to enjoy sand art, “Pluck a Duck,” “Lollipop Tree,” as well as face painting and pumpkin painting. Adults were able to enjoy 50/50 raffles, a cake/pie wheel, and more.  Most in attendance agreed it was a good event that is filled with promise to only get better.

Sponsors of the Fall Festival included the American Legion, Post 6; Aleman & Associates; Bi Rite; Barton’s Grand Rental Station; the city of Seaford; I.G. Burton; Covey Car Care; Penco. The next big event will be the Seaford Christmas Parade on Dec. 7, starting at 7 p.m., with “Let Freedom Ring with the Bells of Christmas.”
