Dorothy Young left this earth for greener pastures on Feb. 13, 2023. She died peacefully under hospice care in the home of her granddaughter, Krista Fluharty. Dorothy was born on Oct. 23, 1931 and grew up in Baltimore, Md. She was the daughter of L. Milton and Marie Nolte Hause. She married Harry Young, a World War II veteran, and they moved to the Eastern Shore where they raised their four children in the towns of Princess Anne, Delmar, and Laurel.
Dorothy was a loyal employee of Sears for 25 years where she was one of the first female division managers in the Salisbury store. Dorothy was a devoted Baltimore Orioles fan as her father played for the minor-league Orioles in the 1920s. She was also a NASCAR fan especially of #3 Dale Earnhardt, Sr. Dorothy always loved the ocean and watching the boats come in and out of West Ocean City. She enjoyed being at the beach with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her four children: H. David Young (Renee) of Jacksonville, Fla.; Jean Young Parkinson (Richard, recently decd.) of Lakeland, Fla.; Brian Young of Delmar; Scott Young (Diana) of Ellendale; seven grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a sister, and a great-grandson.
The Young family has lost its matriarch, a much loved woman of strength, keen intelligence, humor, and devotion to those she loved. She will be missed by so many.
