Doretta Elizabeth Gaskin of Seaford passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday, June 7, 2020. Doretta was born Jan. 29, 1926 in Cape Charles, Virginia, to Ernest and Dora White Rudy. Doretta was an only child and grew up on Chincoteague Island where she enjoyed riding her bike and fishing with her family. When Doretta was 15 she moved to Baltimore, Md., with her parents where she later met and married Eugene Gaskin. Doretta cherished being a mother to her four children. She experienced tremendous loss losing her son, Gary, at the age of eight and later her husband, Eugene, at the age of 40.

Doretta devoted her life to raising her three children in Seaford. Her fondest memories were spent with her children and grandchildren. She loved taking trips to Chincoteague, shopping with her girls, and long conversations with her boys. Doretta’s favorites included: the color turquoise, going out to lunch with friends and family, oysters, warm weather, her home, flowers, music by Engelbert Humperdinck, and watching old movies and gameshows.

She was a loving mother, mom-mom, and grammy. Doretta was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Dora Rudy, son, Gary Gaskin, and husband, Eugene Gaskin. She is survived by her three children, Craig, his wife, Mary Ann Connolly Gaskin, Debra Quillen, her husband, David, and Mark, and his fiancé Teresa Cameron. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Haley Fascelli, her husband Tony, Timothy and Patrick Gaskin, Eryn Quillen and her fiancé, Zachary Evans, and her “precious” great-granddaughter, Emery Fascelli. Her warm heart and sense of humor will forever be remembered.

Funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to one of her favorite foundations, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
