The Delmar varsity boys’ lacrosse team earned an 8-7 home win over Gunston last Wednesday in triple overtime. Carter Mason netted the winning goal after neither team could score in the first two overtime periods.

Delmar held a 2-1 lead after one period thanks to a goal by Reid Washburn with 2:28 left in the period. Gunston knotted the score before the Wildcats’ Isaiah Holbrook scored off a feed from Washburn (7:03) for a 3-2 advantage.

Gunston scored the first two goals of the third quarter for a 4-3 lead. Mason knotted the score with 6:12 remaining in the quarter.

Gunston tallied three straight goals at the start of the fourth quarter for a 7-4 lead. Nathan VanZandt scored off a pass from Khalid Schoolfield (3:58), VanZandt fed Mason (1:17), and Mason scored another goal off an assist from Schoolfield (41.1) to tie the score at 7-7.

Neither team could find the net in the first two overtimes. Mason sealed the Delmar win with a goal in triple overtime.
