Cheryl Yvonne Martin of Laurel passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at TidalHealth Nanticoke in Seaford.

She was born on July 28, 1948, in White Plains, NY, a daughter of the late Joyce Yvonne (Bartow) Trotter and Lafayette William Trotter.

Cheryl was an army brat. She received her formal education in PA, CO, NY and even Germany. She graduated from White Plains HS in 1967. Fun fact: she always bragged that the Four Tops performed at her prom.

Cheryl attended Bloomfield College where she received her Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting while working full time as an accountant at Public Service Electric and Gas in Newark, New Jersey. She found love with William C. Martin, Jr., a colleague turned lifelong partner of 37 years.

She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who was always there when they needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance.

Cheryl was a dedicated accountant with a knack for numbers and retired from PSE&G after 27 years and 10 months of service.

She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age but rededicated herself to Christ at Joy Tabernacle Christian Ministries under Pastor Emma Salter in Newark, NJ. She served in the Day Care and Finance Dept.

Cheryl later became a proud member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Laurel. She shared her gifts as a Sunday school teacher and accountant, spreading warmth through her service at church events. She loved serving dinners at the church and was in charge of feeding all three meals to the folks who volunteered each year for Habitat for Humanity. Cheryl also lent her talents to the town of Laurel as a councilwoman and contributed as a board member to the Laurel Public Library.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane L. Booker and her husband Vincent Booker; grandchildren, Vincent E. Booker, Richard A. Booker, and Joy S.C. Booker; a host of first cousins, family and friends who felt her warmth and generosity.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William C. Martin, Jr.

To commemorate her incredible journey and to celebrate the love she spread, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Laurel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Philip’s Youth Group, 600 S. Central Avenue, Laurel, DE 19956 or Laurel Public Library, 101 E 4th St, Laurel, DE 19956.
