Carlton E. Massey, Sr., of Blades passed away on Thursday, Jan. 22 at TidalHealth Nanticoke in Seaford.
Born on March 31, 1947, at his grandparents’ farm in Reliance, Seaford, he was the son of the late Daniel and Erma (Tull) Massey. Carlton was raised in the Seaford area and completed his education through the 10th grade. On April 6, 1968, he married the love of his life, Virginia E. Massey, at Seaford Wesleyan Church, beginning a devoted marriage that spanned decades.
Carlton worked for many years as a car mechanic and tow truck driver, trades that reflected both his skill and his strong work ethic. He was known for his ability to fix just about anything, especially small engines, and he enjoyed tinkering in his spare time. A man of faith, Carlton cherished his church and found great joy in music. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family.
During his final two weeks, while under hospice care at Nanticoke, Carlton was lovingly surrounded at his bedside by his devoted wife and children, a testament to the deep bond they shared and the love that carried them through his illness.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia E. Massey; his children, Carlton “JR” Massey, and Emma Massey; and his grandsons, Carlton and R.J Robbins. He is also survived by his siblings: Brenda Cole; Margaret Kinnamon (Gary); Benjamin (Angel); and Janie Cordrey; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. His surviving brothers-in-law and sister-in-law include Charles (Ulla), Larry, Cecile D. Lee (Audrey), Herbert (Laura), Moore, and Kenneth Bell. He is also survived by his aunt, Peggy Tull-Clayville.
In addition to his parents, Carlton was preceded in death by Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Tull; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Jester; his brothers, Thomas and Raymond Massey; his sister, Terri Seymore and daughter’s ex-fiance’ Robin D. Robinson.
