Barbara Lewis Truitt of Laurel passed away on Jan. 27, 2022 at the Country Rest Home in Greenwood. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Martha Lewis. Barbara was retired as a manager with E.I. DuPont Company in Seaford. She was a member of St. Philips Episcopal Church in Laurel. She enjoyed gardening, belonging to the Orchid Club, playing the organ, listening to music, and she especially loved her cats.
Barbara is survived by her sons, Alfred “Tommy” Bowden and his wife Theresa, James Franklin Bowden, Robert Edwin Bowden and his wife Coralee, and Joseph Burton Bowden and his wife Diane; daughters, Patricia B. Key and her husband Gene and Michelle, B. Hall; brothers, Robert Howard Lewis, and Edwin Ralph Lewis; sisters, Virginia “Ginny” Lee Lewis, and Margaret Jean Lewis; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Reverend George William Truitt.
A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Feb. 15, 2022 at St. Philips Episcopal Church, 600 S. Central Ave., Laurel, DE 19956. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. at the church. Father Jim Manion will officiate. Interment will be at St. Mark’s Church Cemetery in Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Truitt’s honor to the Sussex County Animal Association, P.O. Box 1697, Seaford, Delaware 19973. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel.
