Anna Rebecca McDowell of Greenwood passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022 at the Delaware Hospice House in Milford.

She was born in Atlanta, Sussex County, the daughter of the late James Willoughby and Florence Marvil Willoughby.

She graduated from Bridgeville High School with the class of 1946. She was married to Herbert McDowell and started out on his grandparents farm. She worked at E.I. DuPont for a couple years and later for O.A. Newton Hatchery. In 1965 they built a chicken house and raised broilers until their retirement in 1990.

Anna loved her family very much and provided a wonderful home. She loved to cook and bake and often had her family and friends over for meals. She was well known for her desserts, sugar cookies, Broadway brownies, banana cream pies, and her favorite meal was her homemade chicken and dumplings. She took great pride in her home. A wonderful housekeeper; she loved nice things and appreciated all that she had. She cared lovingly for her family and her home.

She was always willing to lend any of her family a helping hand in any way possible but she never wanted anyone to help her. She was very independent until the last six months. She was very active physically and sharp mentally as well. She could be very witty and amused a lot of people with her unusual expressions and sayings. Hers was a life well lived and she will be greatly missed by many, especially her family.

She is survived by a son, Glenn McDowell and his wife Amelia and a daughter Connie McDowell all of Greenwood; one grandson: Michael McDowell and his wife Heidi of Greenwood; two great grandsons: Ryan of Milford and Christian of Bridgeville; two great-great-grandsons: Brennan and Kobe both of Bridgeville; a great granddaughter Brianne Campaginini and her husband Mike of Greenwood; two great-great granddaughters: Leia and Q’ira; and a great-great grandson due in September; a brother William Willoughby and his wife Betty of Milford; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters: Evelyn McDowell, Virmadel McAllister and Esther Willoughby; three brothers: Ormond Willoughby, Thomas Willoughby and Harold Willoughby; a granddaughter: Lori McDowell, a grandson: Brian McDowell, a great-granddaughter: Courtney McDowell and a great-great-granddaughter: Elliana McDowell.

Funeral services were on Tuesday, July 26 at the Framptom Funeral Home – Fleischauer Chapel in Greenwood with Pastor Michelle Russell officiating. Burial followed at Bridgeville Cemetery.
