Steven W. Wilkerson of Laurel passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on June 21, 2026. Steve was born on July 31, 1953, in Seaford to the late Ernest and Ruth Wilkerson. He graduated from Laurel High School in the “class of 1971”. After graduation, he attended Delaware Technical and Community College and began a career with the E.I. DuPont Company as a machine operator, where he worked for over 21 years. After retiring from the DuPont Company, he worked with Lockheed Martin in the electronics division with the Black Hawk Helicopters.
Steve enjoyed restoring cars and visiting all the car shows in our area and the surrounding areas with his “1959” Corvette. Not only was he talented in restoring cars, but he was also a skilled woodworker, making and creating one-of-a-kind furniture pieces. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Louise Littleton Wilkerson; brother Jerry Wilkerson; his cat Esmeralda, known as “Sweetie”; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Ruth Ellen Wilkerson; brothers-in-law, Harrison Littleton and Hiram Littleton; and several step-brothers and sisters.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 11, from 1-2 p.m. at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West Street in Laurel. The Celebration of Life will begin at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor David Brittingham will officiate. Interment will follow in Melson’s Cemetery in Delmar. Family and friends are asked to wear casual dress in honor of Steve.
