The Seaford Blue Jay football team improved to 5-1 on the season after a 46-7 homecoming win over First State Military Academy (FSM) last Friday night. Seaford totaled 191 yards rushing and 120 yards receiving in the win. The Blue Jays’ defense held First State to negative yardage (-26) and quarterback Jack Payton threw for 117 yards to Seaford’s Vince Evans with 120 yards passing.
The evening opened with the traditional Homecoming Parade and at half-time Vince Evans III and Andrea Altenor were crowned as the 2025 Homecoming king and queen.

The Blue Jays opened the first quarter turning the ball over on an intercepted pass that was intended for Everette Burton inside the 10 yard-line. The defense responded with two sacks, pushing FSM back to the one yard-line followed by a safety on the tackle of Doubensly Saint Jean. Seaford led 2-0 and on the kick-off return Kalib Thompson collected 27 yards. Burton scored a touchdown on the next play and Luke Metzner hit the PAT for the 9-0 score.
The Blue Jays retook possession and started on their own 27 yard-line. Senior Brendan West and Je’Viohn Hurst moved the ball and Metzner hit a 38-yard field goal for the 12-0 score.
Seaford’s Sincere Harris recovered a fumble on the 26 yard-line and Evans connected with Aizyon Matthews to the 21 yard-line. West took the hand-off and covered the yards for the touchdown. Metzner scored the PAT for a 19-0 lead to end the first quarter.
Seaford stopped First State and forced a fourth down punt. Seaford moved the ball using West, Hurst, and a keeper play by Evans for a seven-yard touchdown run. Metzner scored the PAT for a 26-0 lead.
First State’s bad snap turned into a punt and a Seaford possession. A pass from Evans intended for Thompson, who was being held, bounced off his helmet and Taishawn Frisby’s quick reaction pulled in the football. Burton scored his second touchdown on a 12-yard run. The Blue Jays were up 33-0 after Metzner kicked the extra point.
In the second half under a running clock, senior Matthews pulled in a pass from Evans for a touchdown and 39-0 score. First State scored on a pass to Damier Bryan for a 39-7 score. Harris took the kick-off and returned it to the eight yard-line and West scored on a six-yard run for the 46-7 final score.
The Blue Jays’ rushing leaders were Burton (50), West (47), and Evans III (36). Seaford had a total of 30 tackles and were led by Saint Jean and Jai’Khai Stanley each with four. West, Matthews, Saint Jean, and Jayden Sterling each had one sack.
Seaford School District Assistant Superintendent Jason Cameron announced to the homecoming crowd the 2026 SSD Hall of Fame Inductees. The Hall of Fame, in its second year, will welcome Arnold Mann, Carlia Albury, Trisha Newcomer, Mike Smith, Danny Short, Lovette Purnell, Regina Batson, Darrell Tingle, the 1955 Diamond State Conference football championship team, and the 1980 Seaford baseball state championship team. The induction ceremony is scheduled for the weekend of Jan. 30, 2026 and will include a banquet.
